“Business School Family, or BSF, might be an appropriate term to describe the Business School Council (BSC)” commented Nathan Edlebeck, BSC’s Executive Vice President- BSC Relations. “I truly appreciate everything this organization has done for me and the opportunities it offers to students at W. P. Carey. We are a group of students dedicated to bettering the community, our school, and each other in a selfless manner, expecting nothing in return. It is a group of kind, intelligent, and ambitious leaders.”
Business School Council is an organization that strives to enrich the undergraduate student experience for the W. P. Carey Community, “The Business School Council (BSC) has been instrumental in forming a cohesive community within the entire business school. We unite each of the 40 clubs, providing them with funding, guidance, and support whenever they need it.” said Edlebeck.
While BSC focuses on the W. P. Carey community, we also build friendships that allow us to grow professionally and personally. Nathan Edlebeck, a Junior majoring in Business Law, has been a member of Business School Council since the Fall of 2022. As Edlebeck mentions, “My time with the Business School Council (BSC) has been a journey of tremendous growth. I discovered the club by chance, asking someone with a BSC backpack about it while walking to class from the Hassyampa Academic Village. When I joined, I was an intimidated freshman who didn't fully understand what was going on. However, from that moment, I was welcomed with open arms and encouraged to better myself every day. I've had the privilege of being mentored by some of the best leaders, who have shaped the person I am today and helped build my confidence. I am now a confident leader, thanks to their support and guidance. I hope to give back as much as I've received from this incredible community.”
Nathan Edlebeck’s journey through the Business School Council has been memorable as he has strived in leadership while building lifelong friendships. When asked about his favorite memory, Edlebeck responded, “My favorite memory would either be my first meeting or our most recent banquet. Both are special and create a full-circle moment in my time with this club so far. At that first meeting, I was so nervous but was welcomed with open arms. From there, I was pushed and encouraged to do more and better myself. This led to me becoming VP of Special Events and leading the efforts to host our annual W. P. Carey Clubs and Organizations banquet at Old Main, celebrating everything our organizations have accomplished.”
Being a member of the Business School Council, you can meet a range of students who are here to support you. With members from different years, different majors, and different experiences, we are all connected, and as Edlebeck mentions, ‘Family’. Edlebeck mentions, “Our environment is one of excellence. Everyone here was selected because of their exceptional skills and personality, and it is expected that everyone puts forth their best effort. Beyond that, I know I can reach out to anyone in the club for help, and they would be there for me, just as they know they can come to me if they need anything. University is such a special time for discovering who you are and who you will become, and this group will be with you every step of the way, preparing you for what comes next.”
Entering a new club/organization at W. P. Carey can often be intimidating but as EVP - BSC Relations, Edlebeck strives to welcome new incoming members and feel just as included
throughout their time at BSC. Edlebeck declares, “My mission is to build more camaraderie. I want everyone to feel as included and purposeful as I have felt. I ran for this role because I am passionate about this club and see its potential. I aim to build a community of kindness, grace, and love for each other and W. P. Carey as a whole. New members should feel welcome from day one and leave that first meeting thinking, ‘I've found my community and my people who I know I can count on.’”
Business School Council is an organization with endless opportunities to grow professionally while meeting multiple amazing people who can be lifelong friends. We encourage you to seek us out at Involvement Week on September 3rd and to apply when our applications come out.
