Updated: 6 days ago

This week’s Alumni Spotlight features Julia Tatom, a Spring 2020 graduate who earned degrees in Marketing and Economics, along with a certificate in Applied Business Data Analytics. Julia’s time at ASU was marked by involvement in a variety of organizations, including Barrett, The Honors College, the Business School Council (BSC), Devil’s Advocates, and as a First Year Success Coach.

Julia's adventure in the Business School Council was a very significant part of her higher education journey. She describes BSC as an area where she discovered her best companions and gained deep understanding about W.P. Carey. "I met my best friends in BSC! It was a great way to get to know the WPC community and understand the inner workings of the school," she recalls.

During her period at BSC, Julia occupied several managerial roles like being the Vice President of Marketing and also Executive Vice President. These positions were crucial in improving her set of skills which later became very useful in professional life. BSC helped me get my internships and taught me important managerial skills," she recalls.

Her advice for current students? "Go easy on yourself. Opportunities will come as long as you are open to them." Julia emphasizes the importance of being patient and allowing growth to happen naturally.

Julia says life after university is more simple than what she was thinking. "WPC helped me get my dream job, so my days are fun, and the future is bright!" she says. Her life in New York after college is full of fresh experiences and professional development, she looks forward to advancing on her path.

Julia experienced a big change during her time at ASU. She began as a freshman in Barrett and held down a part-time job with ASU Now, then joined BSC and Devil's Advocates when she became sophomore, along with choosing Economics to be her second major subject. Additionally, she worked an internship of wedding coordination which helped maximize her time spent at ASU. In the third year as a junior, Julia secured another internship role within Greater Phoenix Economic Council simultaneously taking on the VP of Marketing position for BSC. In her final year, she managed to get an internship at Group Gordon PR in New York City during summer and also served as the Executive Vice President of BSC. Now, Julia is a Programmatic Manager at GroupM/Nexus (a WPP agency) in New York City.

When asked why she chose ASU, Julia points to her Arizona roots. "I’m born and raised in AZ, and ASU provided the most value," she says. As for regrets, Julia has none. "There’s nothing I would have done differently throughout college," she asserts, confident in the path she chose and the experiences she gained along the way.

The Business School Council is honored to spotlight Julia Tatom, a leader who made a lasting impact during her time at ASU and continues to thrive in her professional journey. We wish her all the best and good luck on her future endeavors!
